Set Description
Beginning with the year 1793, this Date Set will consist of one coin representing each year of Mint Production from any of its minting facilities. This set will never truly be complete because it will always require the addition of a coin from the current year’s production. An attempt will be made to represent as many varying designs, denominations, and alloys used throughout the history of the United States Mint. Also, commemorative coins and mint error coins can be used to represent any production year. These aforementioned coins are also mint products and should represent the perfect and not so perfect coins of the United States Mint.

Set Goals
My primary goal is to assemble a date set of U.S. coins beginning with the year 1793 and continuing to the current year.As of 2024,this set will need 232 coins to be considered up to date and complete to the current year. I will also try to present a sampling of the historical events, both nationally and/or internationally, that occurred during each year of mint production. As of 01/05/2024 this set currently consists of 216 coins. It only needs 16 coins to be complete and current to the year 2024.l’m hoping to complete this set in the very near future. I have most of the remaining 16 coins but I need to have them certified by NGC.
I also would like to upgrade some coins in the future and possibly rotate some coins in and out of the set to keep it fresh and interesting.
A special thank you is needed to all my fellow collectors who took the time to view my set.Thank you for your time and I hope you find this set interesting and informative.

View Coin   United States 1/2C 1794 HIGH RELIEF C-9 NGC FINE Details This coin is an example of an Early American 1/2 Cent in Fine-Details condition with some corrosion. Surfaces are a dark chocolate color with an even amount of corrosion on both sides. Still a pleasing Details Coin for an Early American Copper.NGC graded and encapsulated this coin.At the time of this coin’s striking George Washington was the 1st President of the United States. All thirteen of the Original Colonies had ratified the Constitution.Just four years prior to this coin’s striking at the Old Philadelphia Mint Rhode Island became the last of the Original Thirteen Colonies to ratify the Constitution of the United States on May 29,1790.For those interested,Rhode Island’s official name is: the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.Three significant events occurred in 1794.On March 4,1794 the11th Amendment to the Constitution was passed by Congress and was added to the Constitution becoming law on February 17,1795. The Eleventh Amendment restricts the ability of individuals to bring suit against states in federal court. Also,on March 27,1794 the United States Navy was established and on May 8th of 1794 the U.S.Post Office was established.Who knows what famous American or possibly a distant relative of your family might have held this very coin in the palm of their hand?
View Coin   United States 50C 1795 Y/STAR O-121 NGC VF Details This coin is a scarce Rarity-4 Overton die variety (O-121) 1795 Half Dollar in VF-Details Cleaned condition. This die variety has the Obverse Y in LIBERTY repunched over a Star! The cleaning appears to have occurred many years ago which gives the coin a silvery gray appearance that is very pleasing to the eye. These photos were taken with my iPhone camera and I think they came out reasonably well.
At the time this coin was made George Washington was the 1st President of the United States and John Adams was Vice President.
View Coin   United States $1 1797 PCGS VF 25 An Early 1797 American Draped Bust Small Eagle Silver Dollar with an extremely low mintage of just 7,776 pieces. This coin is a strong VF-25 as graded by PCGS and rare because of it’s mintage as well as it’s higher circulated grade. At the time this coin was struck n Philadelphia at the first US. Mint either George Washington or John Adams was President of the United States.Washington would have been at the end of his second term and John Adams was being sworn in as the nation’s 2nd President on March 4,1797.So,depending on exactly when this coin was struck that year either man could have been President.Although,Adams would have been President for the great majority of that year,so most likely this coin was struck while Adams was President. Can you imagine who may have handled this coin in early American History??Possibly George Washington? Who knows?Use your imagination!
View Coin   United States 1C 1798 2ND HAIR S-167 NGC VF Details An early American copper Large Cent coin (Sheldon-167 ) in Very Fine details condition because of some corrosion on a dark copper planchet.Still a pleasing looking coin with much historical value as this coin was circulating during the time of John Adams’ Presidency and only 15 years after the end of the U.S.Revolutionary War.
View Coin   United States $1 1799 PCGS XF 40 Another nice example of an early American Silver Dollar in a high circulated grade of EF-40 as graded by PCGS.The last year in the 1700’s and the year of George Washington’s death.President Washington died on December 14,1799 at the age of 67.
View Coin   United States 1/2C 1800 C-1 NGC FINE Details An 1800 C-1 NGC graded Draped Bust 1/2 cent in FINE Details Cleaned Condition.Actually a pleasing looking coin for an Early American 1/2 Cent in this condition and a slightly more difficult date to obtain. On December 12,1800 Washington,DC became the official capital of the United States. On Saturday November 1,1800 the 2nd President of the United States John Adams and his wife First Lady Abigail Adams became the first occupants of the newly built White House.Construction had begun on October 13,1792.It had taken about eight years to build only to be destroyed when fourteen years later it would be burned to the ground by British Soldiers on August 24,1814 during the War of 1812.
View Coin   United States 1C 1801 S-222 NGC FINE Details A rather nice large cent for an early American coin. This coin and many early American coins possessing this amount of wear were the coins used in everyday commerce by average Americans. These heavily circulated coins helped our nation develop into the economic giant of today. They were doing what they were intended to do - circulate! In someways, while they are not as beautiful as uncirculated examples, they did more to advance the growth of our country than an uncirculated version of this coin,
View Coin   United States 1C 1802 S-230 NGC FINE Details An early American Draped Bust Large Cent attributed as S-230 in Fine-Details Grade having some Environmental Damage.Still a nice early American Coin with much history behind it.The President at that time was Thomas Jefferson. He was our nation’s 3rd President at the beginning of his first term as President of the United States when this coin was struck. He would later go on to serve a second term.If only these coins could speak the names of early Americans they have come in contact with- both famous and common!
View Coin   United States 1C 1803 SM DATE SM FRAC S-250 NGC VG Details This 1803 large cent exhibits much usage in general commerce and is an example of the early mint’s production. As in all early U.S.Mint production this coin was manufactured using a screw press. This accounted for variations in the quality of strike because the pressure being applied relied on human manpower to operate the screw press. This coin was struck just one year prior to the Louisiana Purchase.
View Coin   United States 1/2C 1804 Cross 4 Stems PCGS AU 50 BN This is a nice AU - 50 Draped Bust Half Cent Crosslet 4 with Stems as certified by PCGS.Although the Cohen Variety isn’t listed on the label, it appears to be a C-9.The label clearly states that it is a Crosslet 4 with stems variety but because the Cohen number isn’t on the label it is listed as a Plain 4 with Stems for registry purposes which doesn’t make any sense to me because that isn’t the correct description for this coin.None-the-less,it is still a very nice U.S. Draped Bust Half Cent which was struck at the time the Lewis and Clark Expedition was setting out to explore the newly acquired land of the Louisiana Purchase. This land was purchased from France and added considerably to the size of the United States.
View Coin   United States 10C 1805 5 BERRIES JR-1 NGC AG Details This is a very low grade early (JR-1)1805 United States Draped Bust Dime,in AG-DETAILS - Damaged condition. It was produced at the Philadelphia Mint only one year after the Louisiana Purchase! This coin while well worn is still very pleasing to view.It has a clear date, full devices and much history. If it could speak,it would have an interesting story to tell because of the many hands it must have passed through. This undoubtedly accounted for it’s damage and low state of preservation. One way to hold a piece of history in your hands is by having a coin like this in your collection!
Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd President of the United States at the time this coin was made.He had just finished his first term as President and was starting his second. Also,on January 11,1805 the Michigan Territory was organized and on November 18,1805 Lewis and Clark had reached the Pacific Ocean.
View Coin   United States 50C 1806 Pointed 6,Stem PCGS XF 45 An Early American1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar in high circulated condition and still exhibiting some mint luster would surely be a welcome addition to most collections. It is graded XF-45 by PCGS.In my opinion, this Early Draped Bust Half Dollar is a strong candidate for an AU grade.Thomas Jefferson was in the 1st half of his second term as President of the United States at the time this coin was struck and Lewis and Clark returned from exploring the Louisiana Territory on September 23,1806.This Early American Draped Bust Half Dollar is truly a beautiful coin possessing much history and great eye appeal!
View Coin   United States 50C 1807 DRAPED O-102 NGC VF Details This Draped Bust Half Dollar has some type of dark environmental damage. This coin, which is in VF-DETAILS grade, still has the unique appeal of an early United States coin having seen some circulation during the early years of our country. We can only dream about the historical figures who may have handled this coin during our countriy’s formative years! Truly History in your hands!
View Coin   United States 50C 1808 O-103 NGC FINE Details A nice Early American Capped Bust Half Dollar in Fine Details condition as graded by NGC.The VarietyPlus attribution shows the die variety to be an O-103.Some old scratches on the reverse of this coin do not detract from it’s overall appearance. At the time this coin was struck Thomas Jefferson was serving the latter part of his second term as President of the United States. It is always interesting to imagine the hands this coin may have passed through during the early years of our nation and the economic roll it played in the country’s development.
View Coin   United States 1/2C 1809 C-3 NGC VF 25 BN A rather nice 1809 1/2 cent in VF-25 BN condition as graded by NGC.This Half Cent was in all probability minted during the Presidency of James Madison during his first term as President - March 4,1809 - March 3,1813.However slim the possibility may be it could have occurred during the end of Thomas Jefferson’s second term in office which ended on March 3,1809.Both Presidencies overlapped during the year 1809.
View Coin   United States 50C 1810 O-104a NGC XF Details This coin is an 1810 Capped Bust 1/2 Dollar O-104a which has a very faint X on the OBVERSE field in front of Liberty’s face.If not for this,it wouldn’t be graded a Details coin and would be a strong XF-40 coin.It is still a very pleasing coin in it’s current condition and would be most welcome in many early Capped Bust Half Dollar collections.President James Madison was in office at the time of this coin’s striking at the Philadelphia Mint.
View Coin   United States 50C 1811 SMALL 8 O-112a NGC VF 25 This early Capped Bust Half Dollar has a dark toned surface and grades VF-25 by NGC.It’s’ Overton attribution is O-112a and is the small 8 variety. This coin was struck in Philadelphia only one year prior to the start of the War of 1812 against Great Britain.
View Coin   United States 1C 1812 SMALL DATE S-291 NGC VG Details This coin was minted at the beginning of the War of 1812 This war between the United States and Great Britain ended in 1814 but saw the burning of the White House by invading British forces.Prior to the White House being burned on August 24,1814,First Lady Dolley Madison ordered that the full-length portrait of George Washington be saved along with all official White House papers. The portrait of Washington was painted by Gilbert Stuart of Rhode Island in 1797 and was installed in the White House in November of 1800.The painting was returned to the White House after it was rebuilt in 1817.
View Coin   United States 50C 1813 O-107a NGC XF Details A very nice high grade early Capped Bust Half Dollar in Details condition.I still have difficulty in seeing the scratches referred to on the label. This coin was minted in Philadelphia during The War of 1812 and just a year before Francis Scott key wrote our National Anthem. The words for our Anthem were written by Key while he was aboard a British War Ship watching the bombardment of Fort McHenry. The words were later put to song and officially become our National Anthem in 1931.
View Coin   United States 1C 1814 PLAIN 4 S-295 NGC VG 8 BN A nice early copper coin made at the end of the War of 1812.It is the Plain 4 variety Sheldon - 295.It is a pleasing coin for the grade with much historical value during the development of our infant country!
View Coin   United States 25C 1815 B-1 NGC G 6 An 1815 Quarter graded G-6 and attributed as B-1 by NGC.This early quarter is a more difficult date to obtain as compared to other dates in the Capped Bust Series and although it is in a lower state of preservation it most definitely has a significant amount of U.S.history to share. This coin has circulated through many hands over the years and surely was in circulation during many historical events that shaped this country.James Madison was our country’s 4th President serving a second term in office. He and First Lady Dolley Madison were living in the White House during the War of 1812 and oversaw the rescue of many valuable items during it’s burning by the British. On January 8,1815 American forces won the Battle of New Orleans under then General Andrew Jackson who would later go on to become the nation’s 7th President. The War of 1812 was coming to an end at the time of or just before this coin’s striking. The War was officially over with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent on February 18,1815.
View Coin   United States 25C 1818 B-4 NGC FINE Details This coin is an Early Capped Bust Quarter dated 1818 graded as Fine -Details Cleaned and attributed as B-4 by NGC.The cleaning appears to be an old cleaning and doesn’t detract from the coin’s appearance very much.James Monroe was the Nation’s 5th President and served two terms in office between March 4,1817 and March 3,1825.During his time in office Mississippi became the 20th state admitted to the Union,Illinois the 21st,Alabama the 22nd,Maine the 23rd and Missouri as the 24th.Missouri was admitted as a slave state on August 10,1821,after an agreement known as the Missouri Compromise in which Maine was added as a free state.
View Coin   United States 1C 1820/19 SMALL DATE N-2 NGC F 12 BN An interesting over date of a Large Cent produced by the Philadelphia Mint in 1820.Evidently,the last two digits of an 1819 obverse die’s date were repunched to read 1820 thereby allowing the Mint to utilize dies that would have been discarded. This practice of reutilization saved the early Mint from having to prepare new dies needed for next year’s production. This was a cost saving solution.
View Coin   United States 1C 1821 N-2 NGC VF Details While this coin is only graded VF-Details it is still a decent coin which has some environmental damage. An early large cent struck only 6 years after the end of the War of 1812 which ended in1815.This war saw the burning of the White House and a long road to recovery for the United States.James Monroe was our nation’s 5th President when this coin was minted and Daniel D. Tompkins became the 6th Vice President of the United States.Missouri became the 24th State to enter the Union and was admitted as a Slave State on August 10,1821.The admittance of Missouri as a Slave State would come to be known as the Missouri Compromise because Maine would be admitted as a Free State.
