Another nice AU Details coin.This 1848 Large Cent was struck the same year as the 1848 Presidential Election which was won by Zachary Taylor. Millard Fillmore became Vice President.Taylor was a career Army General serving 40ty years in the military before being elected to the Presidency.On February 2,1848 the Mexican - American War ended in an American Victory and Taylor was perceived as a hero which made him a prime candidate for the Presidency.Taylor never completed his term as he died in office on July 9,1850 of a gastrointestinal illness. Millard Fillmore then became the 13th President of the United States.
