Medal, Plaquette, 1930, Bronze, France. WOMAN WITH FLOWERS, By Raoul Benard. Size: 66mm x 43mm. Obv: A female standing/walking on garden stairs toward observer before an archway or portal made of flowers, large bouquets of flowers in woman's hands, Medallist's Signature below; Rv. Large Fountain seen through an archway (Flower covered portal), a tablet or cartouche for engraving in center. Art Deco. Attractive and Scarce. Purchased in France. The obverse makes for an interesting comparison with the Lalique plaquette done for the Centennial of Chilean Independence. Ref: Eng.1370. Raoul René Alphonse Bénard (born in Elbeuf/France, 1881-1961) was pupil to the famous medallists Chaplain, Vernon and Patey and won the Great Prize of Rome in 1911. Bénard was awarded a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1922 and a gold medal in 1924. He became a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1927.
