Set Description
A popular China Lunar thematic S10Y proof coin, scallop shape complete set 1981-2020.
PBoC started to issue modern lunar numismatic coin in 1981, after CCP established new Peoples Republic of China in 1949, but the first issued was in 1979, a set of 4 gold coins to commemorate the 30th year of founding CCP in 1949. These modern coinage maybe just a few decades, against China's few thousands years long history. I believe these modern numismatic coins can better relate to today's China general population, compare them with the pre-1949 older coins, as the Chinese takes strong pride for its national enormous economic progress since 1949, and continue to power ahead toward world biggest economic in the near future.
There are 4 series thus far. The 1st series of 12 coins/years was a traditional round shape of 15gm, the scallop shape only started from 2nd series onward.

View Coin   CHINA - LUNAR SERIES S30Y 1981 Rooster NGC PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO China modern coin began in 1981, with traditional Chinese folklore as the theme, started with the Rooster in the Lunar calendar, an auspicious animal to lead the other 11 animals.
In this same year, PBoC also issued a similar 8gm Gold proof coin.
Uniquely in this first Lunar Silver 15gm series, this coin was minted with 30 Yuan FV, followed by Dog 20 Yuan, hence fore FV 10 Yuan from 1983 onward.

View Coin   CHINA - LUNAR SERIES S10Y 1993 SCALLOP ROOSTER NGC PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO The significant of this 1993 coin was its scallop shape, instead of the usual traditional round. PBoC issued this new variety for the ever popular lunar silver coin series, proof finish & weight of 2/3 oz.
Surprisingly, PBoC reduced this series plan mintage to 6800 pcs, from the 1st series of round shape 10,000 pcs.

In this first scallop series, 8 coins(1993-2000) were 2/3 oz, 4 coins from 2001-2004 were of 1 oz, hence fore, all scallop shape silver Y10 coins were minted with 1 oz.
