Medal, Plaquette, 1900, Bronze, France. MEDICINA by Étienne-Victor (Stephen) Exbrayat (1879-1914). Exbrayat was born in Saint-Etienne / France, French sculptor and medalist, Studied with Thomas and Ponscarme. Important work in French Medallic Art 1870-1940, Ref: Nr. 275 Medicine. Obv. Nursemaid with a dying man, MEDICINA above scene; Rv. Sun rising behind a fountain with the snake of Asclepius. Szie: 69mm x 49mm. Beautiful Patina. RARE. Etienne Victor Exbrayat was a promising sculptor and medallist but was killed in 1914 during World War I. This is unlisted in Jacqmin : meaning RARE ! (Yves Jacqmin "Numismatique des Caisses d'Epargne Privees " Paris 1987). Purchased from estate in USA.
