Medal, Plaquette, 1909, Bronze, Belgium. BRUXELLES ART JEWELRY SCHOOL, by Pierre Theunis (1883-1950). ECOLE d'ART APPLIQUE A LA BIJOUTERIE. Size: 47mm x 62mm. Uniface. Obv: Mostly Nude Female smiling, sitting on plyth, looking at winged victory trophy, implement held up in left hand, below, Bruxelles 1894-1909, Art Applique a la Bijouterie. Rv. Blank. Purchased in France. Theunis engraves female forms with a delicate touch and not overtly sexual, even though partially nude. Theunis was an artist, sculptor and medallist, born in Antwerp, Belgium. When he died in Schaerbeek Belgium, the town promptly named a street after him. He created many commemorative medals including Leopold III, Banque de Bruxelles, Banking Reform, and the 1920 and 1935 Olympic Participation Medals.
