Medal, Plaquette, 1883, Bronze, France. 3 ANGELS PLAYING ON HORN OF PLENTY. by Alphee Dubois (1831-1905). Obv. 3 Little Angeles playing on large Cornucopia, clouds and Roses in Art Nouveau Style; Rv. Floral Swirl of flowers and leaves bound at bottom, Medallist's Initials below, A.D. An outstandingly beautiful work. Size: 53mm x 36mm. Weight: 43.6 Grams. Edge: Bronze and Cornucopia Hallmark. Medallist: Alphée Dubois (born in Paris, 1831-1905) was the son of the engraver Eugène Dubois and the father of the medallist Henri Dubois. Alphée Dubois was pupil to his father, later he went on to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under Barre and Duret. Dubois received the Grand Prix de Rome in 1855 and exhibited at the Salon from 1861 to 1882. He received medals at the Salons of 1868 and 1869 and was created Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1883. Dubois was selected as a jury member at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. His works are in the collections of the museums in Paris, Wien and Kopenhagen. Reference: Eng1145. Purchased in France.
