Medal, Plaquette, 1911, Bronze, France. GEORGES DIEULAFOY, PHYSICIAN, by Frederic Vernon (Father of Jean Vernon). Obv. bust left, Medallists signature to left; Rv. view of Nôtre Dame, medical symbols below, 1839-1911. Very Attractive, Old original Patina, Mint State. 70 x 50mm (PBE 989; Storer –; cf. DNW 57, 1332). Footnote: Georges Dieulafoy (1839-1911), professor of medicine at the Hotel-Dieu, wrote a manual on pathology and was elected president of the Académie de Médecine in 1910. Paul Georges Dieulafoy (November 18, 1839 – August 16, 1911) was a French physician and surgeon. He is best known for his study of acute appendicitis and his description of Dieulafoy's lesion, a rare cause of gastric bleeding. Purchased at the Chicago ANA World Fair of Money Show, August 2014.
