Medal, Plaquette, 1906 (Engraved date 1908), Bronze, FRANCE. CHILD WITH ROSES, by supreme master medallist Ovide Yencesse (1869-1947). Size: 33mm x 55mm. Maier 196, Jones 334. Art Nouveau. Obverse: Little girl, spilling roses from a bundle made from her pulled-up skirt; one rose tumbles off the image, onto the blank area at bottom. Reverse: A single rose, with stem & leaves. An example of this artist's low-relief style, sometimes described as "painterly". Yencesse's impressionistic style of the portrait is obtained by the very low relief and blurred contours. Signed. Purchased at the Chicago ANA World of Money Show, August, 2014.
