Total of 175 dates as of 2024. Have 127 = 73%. I started collecting gold sovereigns in Jan 2022, so the set is just getting started. A few of the rarer years will not be obtainable on my limited budget, but I hope to acquire as many as possible. In every case, my main objective is to obtain coins with great "eye appeal". Not looking for the highest grade, but rather the nicest looking example that I can find for each year. Since most MS60 to MS62 coins are heavily "bag-marked", I will generally seek out nicer looking AU coins for my collection. A separate sub-goal is to collect all of the 1979 to 2025 coins in Proof condition. Since only a few thousand were struck each year, that is going to take a while! So this is a long-term project. For those of you interested in why I chose the name "Resolute" for the collection, it is because the word means a lot to me. First, it describes my personal nature very well. Secondly, it was the name of the acquisition company my future partners and I would use during the process of regaining our independence from a British corporation that I considered to be our own King George III. I chose as our battle flag one with seven interlinking rings with each of my future partner's names in each link. It was inspired by the thirteen rings on the Continental Dollar to reflect our strength of purpose and that "WE ARE ONE." "Resolute" also came from the story of HMS Resolute that sailed to the North Pole in 1851 to rescue a British expedition. Resolute itself became stranded and had to be abandoned. When the ship broke free, fisherman off of Nantucket Island salvaged it. Upon hearing of this, the US government bought it and had it refurbished. The US Navy sailed it to England and presented it as a gift to Queen Victoria in 1856 as an expression of our goodwill. It caused great jubilation through out the country. When it was decommissioned in 1880, Queen Victoria gave orders to have the finest part of the keel fashioned into a desk to be presented to President Rutherford B. Hayes. It is the desk that now resides in the Oval Office. Given the word's significance to me and also its historical importance, I thought it would be appropriate for my collection. About Civil War Tokens: They were made to fill a shortage of small change, especially 1-cent coins, which disappeared from circulation as people hoarded government-issued money during the Civil War. Civil War tokens served as both a substitute for currency & as a form of advertisement or patriotic statement minted & distributed from 1862-1864. As with any collection, a complete set of certified coins is always the goal. This set is close though with only a few left to acquire or have graded. With the exception of the three Dutch coins, and the two Saudi Arabian gold disks described above, this set is complete, with all having been certified except for three 1942 San Francisco mint issues which will be apparent when you peruse the set. The three (as yet) uncertified coins (one each from Australia, Fiji, and Peru) are examples that I do own, but have not had graded. Their descriptive information can be viewed by clicking on the photo icon on the far right of in the Gallery viewing mode. They are all fairly common dates, but most likely will grade AU. I keep hoping to find mint state examples of these coins already graded, but it seems that most of these three were issued early during the war and circulated well. I may yet send them in and hope for the best. I have also included any die varieties that I own as well as error coins that I've had graded. I decided to include duplicates as well. In some cases a coin with a lower technical grade exhibits more eye appeal than the one with a higher grade, so why not included both? The lower value clad coins of $1 in the Innovation series are not being graded in significant quantities due to the low cost of the coins compared to the cost of grading. Achieving top grades is not difficult but 69s are not worth much. I will endeavor to complete the recent series with all TOP POP specimens. The $1 clad coins from the Coin and Chronicles Presidential Series are the most difficult part of this Set. Low mintages and poor production resulted in small populations and high prices for these coins in Pop Top status. I will plan to complete the Innovation $ set with all TOP POP specimens and even replacing the Eisenhower version from PCGS with an NGC version in the Coin and Chronicles Presidential Series. If I found interesting labeling varieties these were also included.
