I met a coin dealer in Shreveport LA when I first started collecting that told me "You'll meet them in all different kinds that collect and deal in coins." He was right! I am pretty much self taught and don't seem to enjoy the numismatic and history part of collecting as most people do. For me, I enjoy the thrill of the chase and the tangible investment part of collecting the most. Coin collecting gave me an avenue to focus some of my free time on versus doing something else unproductive in my life. I started collecting any type of coin but now focus primarily on Mexican 8 Reales. Although many of these coins aren't excessively rare, they are more rare than Morgan Dollars and something I think that will appreciate in more value with time. They are also harder to locate. The Good Lord blessed me with the ability to be able to make moderate investment amounts in these coins and to him I give all the glory and credit for this. I do not have an unlimited budget however and can't afford bidding wars with some of the more affluent collectors, so I have to be thrifty in my quest.
