View Coin NGC type 4 United States 5C 1938 D/D BUFFALO NGC MS 66 NGC type 4 holder.

Holder has a light tan outlined (border) label on the front containing the date, grade & serial number. The NGC scales logo appears in white print on a tan horzontally lined background. (Earlier issues of this type holder had a green border & background.) The type 4 holder is distinguished from the type 5 by its lack of a barcode.

Holder reverse has a nearly full-width hologram of NGC's scales logo along with the words "Numismatic Guaranty Corporation of America". (This is the same hologram used on the later type 5 and type 6 holders.) Because the hologram was adhered to the outside of the plastic case, it was subject to scuffing and damage, such as that caused by trying to remove inventory labels & price tags placed over it by dealers & sellers.

This holder type was issued by NGC from about August 1989 through around 1992.
View Coin NGC type 5 United States 5C 1952 NGC PF 68 NGC type 5 holder.

Holder has light tan outlined label on front containing the date, grade and serial number with the barcode beneath. The NGC scales logo appears in white print on a tan horizontally lined background. Holder reverse has a full width hologram of the scales logo for NGC along with the words Numismatic Guaranty Corporation of America. The holder has no groove separating the label area from the coin area of the slab. This holder type was issued by NGC from around 1992 through 1996 or 1997.
View Coin NGC type 6 United States 5C 1950 NGC PF 67 CA NGC type 6 holder.

This is the scarce NGC type 6 holder which was only produced briefly in 1996 or 1997. This holder has the newer grooved insert. The front label has a barcode beneath the serial number and a full-width hologram on the reverse, the same as on the type 5 holder.)
Issued by NGC in 1996 or 1997.
View Coin NGC type 7 United States 5C 1939 S REV OF 38 NGC MS 67 NGC type 7 holder.

Holder has similar case & front label as the type 6 holder, but the hologram on the back has been changed to a smaller squarish shape(approx. 2.6 cm wide by 2.0 cm high with straight edges) & includes the ANA logo.
This holder type was issued by NGC from 1997 through August 2000.
View Coin NGC type 8 United States 5C 1940 NGC MS 67 NGC type 8 holder.

On this type holder the background behind the logo on the front label is now in a much lighter shade. Also, the serial number now appears in a small font below the barcode at bottom of front label.
The hologram on the reverse appears similar in design to the type 7, however, the hologram on the type 8 holder is larger & wider than the type 7 by over 1 cm with slightly convex edges .
Issued by NGC for about 4 weeks in August & September, 2000.
View Coin NGC type 8.1 United States 5C 2000 S NGC PF 70 UC NGC type 8.1 holder.

This type holder is similar to the type 7 holder with the darker background for the scales & placement of the serial number in a normal font above the barcode on the front label, much different from the type 8 holder. The hologram on the reverse appears similar in design to the type 7, however, like the type 8, the hologram on the 8.1 holder is about 1cm larger & 1.5 cm wider than the type 7.
This type holder was issued by NGC from September 2000 through July 2001.

(Note: This example is graded PF 70 W Ultra Cam. The “W” designation on the front label was used to indicate that a silver or nickel coin was entirely untoned, and its application was limited to certain modern series. It was used by NGC for about 2-1/2 years (until August 2002) to distinguish between toned and untoned coins.)
View Coin NGC type 9 United States 5C 1961 NGC PF 69 CA NGC type 9 holder.

The type 9 holder has a similar style front label as the type 7 & 8.1, except the words "Numismatic Guaranty Corporation" has now been added in white print to the bottom section of the label's border. In addition, the bottom of the barcode now extends below the brown background of the scales. The hologram on the reverse remained the same as the Type 8 & 8.1 holder. Issued by NGC from July 2001 through July 2003.
View Coin NGC type 10 United States 25C 2000 S CLAD NEW HAMPSHIRE NGC PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO NGC type 10 holder.

This holder's front label is somewhat similar to the type 9, but now has the scales logo in brown print on a white background. The front label has the grade in a bold font & omits the full company name at the bottom (instead using their logo & website address in white print at the label's bottom border.) The reverse uses a new blue color hologram that includes the old 'lamp of knowledge logo of the ANA.
Issued by NGC from July 2003 through August 2003
View Coin NGC type 13 United States 5C 1977 S NGC PF 69 UC NGC type 13 holder. (Also known as "type 11" due to inconsistent numbering among collectors. NGC issued multi-coin holders & holders for special issue coins, such as mint-sealed silver dollars, that some collectors designate as type 11 & 12 and type 15 & 16.)

This type holder's front label has the grade in a bold font & includes the full company name at the bottom (omitting the logo & website address). The reverse still uses the blue color hologram that includes the old "lamp of knowledge logo" of the ANA that was used on type 10 holders.
This type holder was issued by NGC from September 2003 through November 2003.
View Coin NGC type 14 United States 5C 1941 S NGC MS 66 NGC type 14 holder. (Also known as "type 12" due to inconsistent numbering among collectors. NGC issued multi-coin holders & holders for special issue coins, such as mint-sealed silver dollars, that some collectors designate as type 11 & 12 and type 15 & 16.)

This type holder includes the same front label as the NGC type 13 holder. However, the hologram on the reverse has changed to include the new logo of the ANA. (Sometimes referred to as the crescent-type logo because of its appearance, it was actually the ANA's official seal based on the design of the Peace Dollar.)
This type holder was issued by NGC from November 2003 through November 2004.

View Coin NGC type 17 United States 5C 1938 NGC PF 67 NGC type 17 holder. (Also known as "type 13" due to inconsistent numbering among collectors. NGC issued multi-coin holders & holders for special issue coins, such as mint-sealed silver dollars, that some collectors designate as type 11 & 12 and type 15 & 16.)

This holder type has the same front label as the type 13 & type 14 holders. The hologram on the reverse has now been changed to a full width design that includes the logos of the ANA & PNG.
Issued by NGC from November 2004 through February 2008.
View Coin PCGS type 1 United States 50C 1955 PCGS PF PCGS type 1 holder.

Also known as the "Rattler" due to the fact that the coin inside could actually move or rattle inside its holder.

Obverse & Reverse labels have perforated edges. There is no identification of the grading company on the obverse of the holder. The reverse label has the words "Professional Coin Grading Service" aligned vertically and underlined except for the letters PCGS.

View Coin ANACS type 3 PhotoCert. United States ANACS 5C 1955 D/S PCGS MS 65 Jefferson Nickel - ANACS Type 3 PhotoCert. holder.
(Holder has a plastic slip containing the coin stapled to a paper card with photos of obverse & reverse of coin. The printed certification is stamped on the reverse side of the card).

This example is a 1955-D/S Jefferson Nickel. ANACS certified as Genuine 3/19/79. (Ungraded, but appears to be in better condition than one later certified as MS-65 by ANACS).

ANACS began grading coins in March 1979, using the technical grading standards that the ANA had established earlier with its book, “The Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards for United States Coins". Coins were given a grade for each side of the coin, obverse then reverse (e.g., MS-65/63). ANACS issued the Type 3 Photocertificates from 1979-1981. In 1989 ANACS discontinued issuing photo certificates altogether and began encapsulating coins in tamper evident plastic holders.

The pyramidal A logo is also embossed on the reverse, in the bottom right corner of the clear plastic casing.
