Set Description
First, let me say that I do not collect coins to complete sets. I only collect ones that I like or that have some personal meaning. Thus, this set will be comprised of multiple countries of origin and multiple subjects. I wanted to be able to print out for each coin a little history about why I purchased each.

I have included the reverse image of each coin but also one of my own photos.

Having traveled to 80 countries, most of the coins in my set are travel related. The slot order will be arranged chronologically as I have made the date I visited as the slot number.

View Coin 19980810 CANADA - 1968 TO DATE S$20 2016 THE ROCKIES COLORIZED RCM 147215 NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO 1 oz. Fine Silver Colored Coin - Canadian Landscape Series - The Rockies - Mintage: 7,500 (2016)

Canadian Rockies
Alberta, Canada
Visited: 10 Aug 1998

Mintage of 7,500

In 1998 we spent a week exploring the many Provincial Parks in the Canadian Rocky Mountain Range. These included Yoho, Jasper, Banff, the Columbia Icefields, Lake Agnes, Lake Louise, Lake Moraine and Kootenay. The scenery and wildlife were unbelievable. I do believe that this area is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Special features:
The coin is the first in a 4-coin series that celebrates Canadian landscapes, beginning with the beautiful landscape of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

About the Design:

The reverse design by Canadian artist Stéphanie Gauvin features an artistic rendering of Tower Peak, nestled in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. Here, masterful engraving recreates the artist's brush strokes. As the reverse design's central point of interest, the snow-covered edges of Tower Peak rise up from the sub-alpine meadow in the foreground, which is lined with tall spruces.

View Coin 19990609 PALAU S$5 2014 FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL COLORIZED NGC PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO Berlin Wall
Berlin, Germany
Visited: 9 Jun 1999

Mintage: 2,014

In 1999, Berlin was the starting point for our tour of the Eastern European countries of Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Austria. The wall had come down 10 years before but there were several panels left in place for a reminder of sadder times. I am pictured here standing in front of one of these remaining panels.

The coin is interesting because it utilizes the new technology of 3D laser tilt. It commemorates 25 years "Fall of the Wall". East and West united on one coin. The Berlin Wall divided the city into East and West and was regarded as the most distinctive symbol of the separation.

The former Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Germany, Helmut Kohl and the Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev initiated the end of the Cold War. As a result of the wall falling on November 9th, 1989, Germany was reunited. If you tilt the coin one way, Kohl is depicted and then tilt it the other way, Gorbachev is depicted.

Visited: 12 Nov 2002

From the first time I snorkeled in 1995 off the Napoli Coast of Kauai, Hawaii, I knew the ultimate snorkeling trip would be the Great Barrier Reef off the Australian coast and I was certainly right. Armed with several underwater Kodak disposable cameras, I quickly filled them photos of the unbelievable seascape and fish of every color and size. This was definitely one of the highlights of our Australia trip in 2002.

This low mintage proof coin by the Central African Republic (CAR) features Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, including a trio of marine creatures that play a vital role in its sustenance (as can be seen on the reverse of this coin).

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified this 2015 Colored Coin - WWF - Great Barrier Reef PF70 Ultra Cameo Early Releases (UC ER). There is no higher grade than a PF70 when it comes to the certification of proof coins. This grade refers to a proof coin of exceptional eye appeal, a coin with no post production imperfections from a 5x microscope. In short: “The perfect coin, as minted” (NGC website).

The “Ultra Cameo” designation refers to the optimal contrast that exist between the raised and flat services on this coin. It is specifically in reference to the contrast that exists between the colorized, frosted (matt-like) devices and mirrored fields on this coin. The “Early Releases” designation refers to the fact that this coin was sent to NGC for certification within 30 days after the release of the overall issue.

Design of the Great Barrier Reef WWF World Wildlife Fund Coin

The inscriptions on the obverse of this coin are: “RÉPUBLIQUE CENTRAAFRICAINE” (Translated: Central African Republic) and “100 FRANCS CFA.” It also includes the coat of arms of CAR.

The official logo of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), three marine creatures critical to the sustenance of the Great Barrier Reef and a colorful depiction of the reef itself appear on the reverse. It also includes the inscription: “GRANDE BARRIERE DE CORAIL” (Translated: Great Barrier Reef).

Visited: June, 2005

Mintage: 5000

A friend and I had always wanted to go on safari. In June, 2005 we visited both Kenya and Tanzania for 3 weeks. When I saw this coin I thought that perhaps the lion I photographed had been the model for the reverse.

The trip was such an amazing experience. Between the two of us we took over 2500 photos and over 8 hours of video. We saw scores of lions up close and personal (fortunately from the safety of our vehicle. On the very first night we were there we went on a night drive and we witnessed a huge lion fight. I captured this on video and our guide proceeded to show all other guides for the next three weeks my clips. None of them had ever seen such a fight.
View Coin 20140710 CANADA - 1968 TO DATE S$20 2014 CASA LOMA COLORIZED RCM 129110 NGC PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO Casa Loma
Toronto, Canada
Visited: 10 Jul 2014

Mintage is 2,784. Second coin of the series.

In 2014 we drove the Trans Canadian Highway, entering at International Falls, MN. Going East we drove all the way to Nova Scotia spending about 3 weeks taking in all of the sites. In Toronto we discovered Casa Loma. This is North America’s only full sized castle and Toronto’s premier historic attraction. It somewhat reminded us of the Pena Palace in Cascais, Portugal.

In 1911, Sir Henry Pellatt engaged noted architect E J Lennox to help him realize a lifelong dream, the creation of an Edwardian castle on top of a hill overlooking Toronto. It took 300 men three years to complete the nearly 200,000 square foot castle at a cost of $3.5 million (at that time). Situated on 5 acres, it was the largest private residence in Canada.

This is a photo I took of the actual stained-glass dome. The coin depicts just the center circle.
