Owner Comments:
The Ship Amsterdam met her demise on her maiden voyage in 1749. Passing through the English Channel during a fierce storm, her crew weakened from an outbreak of the Black Death plaque {a serious concern on ships because of rat stowaways} and rumblings of mutiny, the rudder broke and the ship ran aground. A replica ship was finished in 1990 and participated in the Sail 95" event. - first of a really neat 5-coin set that I got housed in a multi-coin holder by NGC-special mention to ronday who traded me this raw 5 coin set
