Medal, Plaquette, 1899, Bronze, France. COMITE FRANCAIS EXPOSITION A L'ETRANER FEMME SERPENT (French Committee of exhibitions and conventions), by Medallist Louis-Alexandre Bottee (1852-1940). Award plaquette in the inscribed name of J-D-D. BEIGBEDER. Size: 64mm x 42mm (Ref: PBE 19; Coll. R. Marx 386; BM Acq. 1978-82, p.38, 18; BDM I, 232; cf. DNW M2, 2485). Obv. Seated Female, cornucopia, signed L. Bottee below; Rv. (Similar to a later Bottee medal for the LPE in 1904) Tree, Hammer, Tools, Legend and awardee name below. Attractive with Original Aged Patina. Purchased in France. Medallist Info: Bottee apprenticed at the age of 13 years in a button factory where he was responsible for burning medals. Student at the School of Decorative Arts , he entered the studio of Paulin Tasset in 1869. Received in 1871 at the National School of Fine Arts , he received in 1878, First Prix de Rome for engraving medals. Won Gold Medal at the Salon in 1900. Office of the Legion of Honor 1903. Elected to Academy of Fine Arts in 1930.
