Medal, Plaquette, 1902/1910, Bronze, France. L' ARCHEOLOGIE, by Emile Seraphin Vernier (1852-1927). Rare large award plaque designed in 1902, presented in 1910 by La Societe Prehistorique Francaise to Melle Chervin. Size: 70mm x 50mm. Weight: 108 Grams. Obv/ A naked Lady (personified Archaeology) on her knees at left is contemplating an antique Egyptian cup she just found in a deep hole in the ground. Around her many different "treasures". At left upper side, in two lines: "ARCHEOLOGIE" (Archaeology); Rev/ A part of the "treasure" in a large emerge. Edge: Engraving "Bronze" and hallmark Cornucopia (Horn of Plenty Paris Mint). Vernier was a French Sculptor, burner and medallist, pupil of Lucien Falize, Germain Bapst, Emile Froment-Meurice and Placide Poussielgue-Russand. He won a medal at the Salon des Artistes in 1866. This bronze plaquette represented his Art Work at the New York Art Exposition in 1910. Reference: plate Nr.66 "Médailles de Récompenses de la Monnaie de Paris".
