Medal, Plaquette, c1900, Silvered Bronze Art Nouveau Medal, France, NATURE, THE SPRING, THE SOURCE, Plaquette by J.-B. Daniel Dupuis, Paris, 1900-1903. Obv: Nude woman standing right, drinking at ornamented fountain. Rev: Small nude angel, crawling along rock, discovering a spring. Silvered Bronze. Size: 36mm x 67mm. Edge: Bronze + cornucopia mark (Paris). Jean Baptiste DANIEL DUPUIS (1849-1899). Sculptor, medallist and painter. He was admitted at the age of 16 at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, he won three years later in 1868 the Second Grand Prix de Rome de gravure en médailles and in 1872 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome. He met with a tragic death assassinated by his wife. In the book reference BDM (1902, Forrer) the author writes : “As an exponent of the new French Medallic Art this great artist stands only second to such men as Chaplain and Roty, and in some of his beautiful works he has even rivalled them”.
