Ford's Hospital was also known as Grey Friars' Hospital and was founded in 1529 under the will of William Ford, a merchant of Coventry.
One of Peter Kempson's series of 47 pieces featuring 19 Coventry buildings made for collectors. Peter Kempson also married each of the 19 obverse tokens with a reverse featuring the bust of George Frederick Handel using the obverse die of a private token made for J. Hardingham.
