MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE, Circle of Friends Series #05, RARE, by Medallist: Jules Édouard Roiné, Marquis de Lafayette, November 1911, Bronze, 76.7 x 47.1 mm, 116 g. Obv. Lafayette the hero facing left, modeled as a young man; Rv. Liberty is shown, striding forward; the figures in the clouds tell of the influence by our Revolution upon that of France. The smoke indicates the chaos that accompanied the latter. Liberty carries the flags of the new Republic and the French Monarchy. Preceded by the American eagle, she is sending her cry of welcome across the sea. Edge: J.K. Davison, Phila. Purchased at the Chicago ANA World Fair of Money Show, August 2014.
