Owner Comments:

Medal, Plaquette, c1900, Silvered Bronze, Belgium, The "KEYHOLE" Medal, Size: 39x70mm. Weight: 48 Grams. Lightly gilt silvered Bronze Art Nouveau, Medal by Jean-Baptiste DeKeyser (1857-1927) and Daeghsels. Obverse: Woman seen thru a keyhole, with crown of Laurel and palm leaf in right hand; Reverse: Decors of Laurel and Circular insert die, also set within a keyhole design. This insert die could be changed and the medal could be issued for other organizations or personal awards. This one was awarded to Msr Alb. Willems. Belgian medals were far more often struck in silvered bronze than in silver. Named pieces, such as this, are more likely to be struck in silver. Unusual, with a stunningly beautiful design. cf. Bosco @ $250.00. Purchased in Belgium.
