Owner Comments:

JNDA 01-19. The last 50 sen produced. Minting started in 1947 as a 'reduced size' to accommodate rising metal values. The previous coin had a higher melt value than face value after a year of production. As with the previous coin, the brass was said to be recovered from spent casings.

Also of note is this coin has moved from the 'Nippon seifu' ('Government of Japan') to 'Nippon koku' ('Country of Japan') reflecting the adoption of a new constitution and forming the new government.

S23 has a rotated die variant which is not noted in the JNDA. The rotation is approximately 175 degrees.

Diameter 19 mm, brass, weight 2.80 grams.
