View Coin   GREAT BRITAIN - DECIMAL G2PND 2016 G.britain GREAT FIRE OF LONDON 350TH ANNIVERSARY NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO The Great Fire of London swept through the central parts of the English city from Sunday, 2 September to Thursday, 6 September 1666. The fire gutted the medieval City of London inside the old Roman city wall. It threatened but did not reach the City of Westminster, Charles II's Palace of Whitehall, or most of the suburban slums. It destroyed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, St Paul's Cathedral, and most of the buildings of the City authorities. It is estimated to have destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the city's 80,000 inhabitants.

The death toll is unknown but was traditionally thought to have been relatively small, as only six verified deaths were recorded. This reasoning has recently been challenged on the grounds that the deaths of poor and middle-class people were not recorded; moreover, the heat of the fire may have cremated many victims, leaving no recognisable remains. A melted piece of pottery on display at the Museum of London found by archaeologists in Pudding Lane, where the fire started, shows that the temperature reached 1,250 °C.

This coin commemorates it's 350th anniversary.

View Coin   GREAT BRITAIN - DECIMAL G2PND 2018 G.britain Frankenstein 200th Anniversary NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is a novel written by English author Mary Shelley (1797–1851) that tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a hideous sapient creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. Shelley started writing the story when she was 18, and the first edition was published anonymously in London on 1 January 1818, when she was 20.

Frankenstein is infused with elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement. Brian Aldiss has argued that it should be considered the first true science fiction story because, in contrast to previous stories with fantastical elements resembling those of later science fiction, the central character "makes a deliberate decision" and "turns to modern experiments in the laboratory" to achieve fantastic results. It has had a considerable influence in literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories, films and plays.

This coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the first publication.
View Coin   GREAT BRITAIN - DECIMAL G2PND 2017 G.britain JANE AUSTEN AN ENDURING ROMANCE NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO Jane Austen( 16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which interpret, critique and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security. Her works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century literary realism. Her use of biting irony, along with her realism, humour, and social commentary, have long earned her acclaim among critics, scholars, and popular audiences alike.

With the publications of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816), she achieved success as a published writer. She wrote two additional novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1818, and began another, eventually titled Sanditon, but died before its completion. She also left behind three volumes of juvenile writings in manuscript, a short epistolary novel Lady Susan, and another unfinished novel, The Watsons. Her six full-length novels have rarely been out of print, although they were published anonymously and brought her moderate success and little fame during her lifetime.

This coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of her death.

View Coin   GREAT BRITAIN - DECIMAL G2PND 2016 G.britain HISTORY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO William Shakespeare (bapt. 26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" (or simply "the Bard"). His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children: Susanna and twins Hamnet and Judith. Sometime between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men. At age 49 (around 1613), he appears to have retired to Stratford, where he died three years later.

This coin commemorates the 400th anniversary of his death and pays tribute to his histories, such as Richard III.

View Coin   GREAT BRITAIN - DECIMAL G2PND 2018 G.britain RAF Centenary Badge NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's aerial warfare force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918. Following victory over the Central Powers in 1918 the RAF emerged as, at the time, the largest air force in the world. Since its formation, the RAF has taken a significant role in British military history. In particular, it played a large part in the Second World War where it fought its most famous campaign, the Battle of Britain.

The badge of the Royal Air Force is the heraldic emblem used to represent the RAF which features an eagle superimposed on a circlet which is surmounted by a crown.

The badge was based on a design by a tailor at Gieves Ltd of Savile Row. It was first used in August 1918 and the original circlet showed a garter and buckle. The present plain circlet dates from 26 January 1923 when the badge was registered at the College of Arms and, it being noted that the garter and buckle were heraldically incorrect, a substitution was made.

In heraldic terms it is: "In front of a circle inscribed with the motto Per Ardua Ad Astra and ensigned by the Imperial Crown an eagle volant and affronté head lowered and to the sinister."Although there have been debates among airmen over the years whether the bird was originally meant to be an albatross or an eagle, the consensus is that it was always an eagle.

This coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of it's creation.

View Coin   GREAT BRITAIN - DECIMAL G5PND 2017 G.britain HOUSE OF WINDSOR 100TH ANNIVERSARY NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO This Gold Proof £5 coin (Crown) was issued for the House of Windsor Centenary.

During WWI King George V decided that the name of the Royal House, the very German sounding ‘Saxe-Coburg-Gotha’ may not have been doing his PR any favours, at a time when Britain was in the middle of the biggest war in human history, against (mainly) the Germans. Something a lot more English sounding was the order of the day. By proclamation in July 1917 the House of Windsor was established. At about the same time a lot of the Royal Family’s German titles were dropped and the rest were fully anglicised. In the years following, the King also stripped 15 of his German relations of their British titles.

King Canute also ruled over Denmark, Norway and part of Sweden. Legend has it that he once commanded the tide to go out and when didn’t work, said “All men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws”. He then removed his gold crown and never wore it again.

View Coin   GREAT BRITAIN - DECIMAL G2PND 2020 G.britain VE Day NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO Following news of Germany's surrender, 8 May 1945 – Victory in Europe (VE) Day – was declared a public holiday. With bunting strung from lamp posts and pubs stocked with beer, war-weary Britons could finally celebrate. People danced and hugged in the streets as sheer joy broke down social conventions. “This is your victory,” declared Winston Churchill, paying tribute to the British people who had remained unbowed by the bombings and blackouts. VE Day remains in the memory of all who witnessed it. Seventy-five years on, we thank the generation who gave so much and honour their spirit and sacrifice.

In 2020, we remember the first hopeful steps towards lasting peace and the promise of a brighter future with a commemorative £2 coin. Available in limited-edition gold Proof, silver Proof and silver Proof Piedfort editions, alongside a Brilliant Uncirculated edition, Royal Mint graphic designer Dominique Evans captures the magnitude of events with a design that puts people at the very heart of the coin – the rays emanating from the centre evoke a sense of hope. As we mark this landmark anniversary, it’s a poignant reminder of the strength of national unity in times of crisis.

View Coin   GREAT BRITAIN - DECIMAL G2PND 2019 G.britain Samuel Pepys Last Diary Entry 350th Anniversary NGC PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO The diary of Samuel Pepys is a rich historical source and its author is seen as one of the great diarists. From the first page of Pepys’ diary we are drawn into scenes of life at the time of the Restoration. His eyewitness accounts of great events like the coronation of Charles II and the horrors of the Great Fire of London and the Great Plague appear alongside reports on his day-to-day business, leisure and home life. His observations of events and people are so vivid because he intended them to be private, as shown by the fact that he kept the diary in shorthand.

Pepys brought his diary to a close on 31 May 1669, fearing he was losing his sight. Now, 350 years after the last diary entry, The Royal Mint has struck a £2 coin in gold to celebrate this moment and the man himself.

‘THE GOOD GOD PREPARE ME’ edge inscription is part of the final diary entry and expresses Pepys’ fear of going blind.
