Set Description
The Legacy Knights Numismatic Society is a group of elementary school students, parents, and volunteers who enjoy the study and collection of coins, currency, tokens, medals, and related items. This collection originates in 2018, when LKNS created and issued its first club coin in four different metals: aluminum, copper, .925 sterling silver, and .999 fine silver. These first coins are hammered coins in the medieval style. Planchets and dies were hand-crafted by medieval moneying artist Mr. Carson Engle. 610 coins were struck in all: 438 by Mr. Engle and 172 aluminum coins by members and guests of LKNS. Aluminum, copper, and sterling coins were issued individually and in 3- and 4-coin presentation sets and were used as fundraisers and as recognition awards. The .999 fine silver variety was only available in the 4-coin set as a fundraiser. The obverse of the inaugural coin features a knight on horseback with the inscription “SOCIE MILIT NUMIS LEGATUM” (Societas Milites Numismatæ Legatum). The reverse features a long cross with twelve roundels and the inscription “FRU HON DIS DOC” (fruor honoro disco doceo: I enjoy, I honor, I learn, I teach).
