MEXICO Ferdinand VII. 1814-Mo JJ AV 1/2 Escudo. NGC MS62. Mexico City. FERD · VII · D · G · HISP · ET IND. Laureate head right / Crowned oval shield. KM 112; Fr.-57.

Fantastic little coin. As of February 2016, only one graded higher by NGC (MS63), none by PCGS. Also, substantially better eye appeal than the NGC MS63 coin (2790966-002).

This coin has been previously auctioned twice by Heritage:

2010 CICF Signature World Coin Auction #3009, lot 22328. From the sale’s catalogue: “Ferdinand VII gold 1/2 Escudo 1814-Mo JJ, KM112, MS62 NGC, flat colour on the king's face but otherwise highly lustrous”.

2013 CICF World and Ancient Coins Signature Auction #3024, lot 25127. From the sale’s catalogue: “Ferdinand VII gold 1/2 Escudo 1814 Mo-JJ, KM112, MS62 NGC, a gorgeous straw-gold coloured specimen with vibrant luster and nearly invisible handling that precludes a finer grade”.

It has been also sold twice in eBay:

June 12, 2013: 10 bidders, 22 bids, 10 days (item number 121120080226).

February 5, 2016: Best offer, 2 buyers with 3 offers (item number 252278056817).

MEXICO Ferdinand VII. 1815-Mo JJ AV 1/2 Escudo. NGC AU53. Mexico City. FERD · VII · D · G · HISP · ET IND. Laureate head right / Crowned oval shield. KM 112; Fr.-57.

Fantastic little coin. As of October 2016, there are 6 coins graded, 1@40, 2@53, and 3@55. When I bought this coin was labeled as 1815/4, clearly is not.

MEXICO Ferdinand VII. 1816-Mo JJ AV 1/2 Escudo. NGC MS63. Mexico City. FERD · VII · D · G · HISP · ET IND. Laureate head right / Crowned oval shield. KM 112; Fr.-57.

Fantastic little coin. As of April 2017, NGC Top Pop of 5 coins graded (1@45, 2@55, 1@62, and 1@63). None higher by PCGS.

From the sale’s catalogue: “Ferdinand VII gold 1/2 Escudo 1816 Mo-JJ MS63 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM112, Cal-363. The finest graded example to date at NGC boasting somewhat mark free surfaces. Coin also has light golden surfaces are very pleasing to the eye. From the Law Collection.”

Amazing little coin. As minted! Nice patina! Top Pop at both NGC and PCGS! At the time of purchase (April 2018) NGC has certified 3 coins: 1@40, 1@53, and 1@61; PCGS has certified only one at 63 (i.e. this one).

From the sale's catalogue: "Ferdinand VII gold 1/2 Escudo 1818 Mo-JJ MS63 PCGS, Mexico City mint, KM112, Cal-365. The single highest certified example by either NGC or PCGS, this razor-sharp little beauty exhibits substantial luster across the entire planchet, the reverse flooded with a brooding red patina to the peripheries. A delightful offering for the collector of the Mexican series."

MEXICO Ferdinand VII. 1820-Mo JJ AV 1/2 Escudo. NGC MS62. Mexico City. FERD · VII · D · G · HISP · ET IND. Laureate head right / Crowned oval shield. KM 112; Fr.-57.

Fantastic little coin. As of January 2016, top pop of only 4 graded.

From the sale's catalogue: "Ferdinand VII gold 1/2 Escudo 1820 Mo-JJ MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM112, Cal-367. Mint State with strong mint bloom, slight strike softness on the shield and scattered non-obtrusive handling marks preventing a higher designation. The final date of this scarce issue, very rare and most desirable in this quality. The Rudman example of this date (Heritage Auctions 9/2015, lot 31369) hammered for $1,200 in AU58 NGC certification."
