1820 Matron Head Cent. Newcomb-13. Large Date. Rarity-1. Mint State-65 RB (PCGS).
Highly lustrous light olive brown on the obverse with generous mint red undertones mottled throughout the fields and recesses. The reverse is similar near the center, but it is otherwise deep bluish steel. A couple of small marks left of Liberty's nose and a short streak of deeper patina on the N of UNITED will serve to identify this piece in the future.
An obverse crack connects all stars and digits of the date, as seen on all examples of the variety. The late state dies, Noyes' State-C/B, are identified by peripheral flowlines and weakening of the dentil tips. Another interesting feature of this specimen is that it was apparently struck in a broken collar. An irregular ridge of metal is seen following the edge of the coin from about star 3 to star 6, where it passes under the grading holder gasket. This is not a feature we recall having noticed on other examples of this variety.
This is a Randall Hoard variety and readily available in nice condition. It is also a very popular type coin as it tends to be found with fresh surfaces, good color and excellent eye appeal, as seen here. Supposition of the Randall Hoard source for nice 1820 cents is somewhat safe, as Dr. Montroville Dickeson wrote about them in 1859, prior to the discovery of the hoard, that "good specimens [are] difficult to be obtained."

The 1995 Uncirculated Silver Eagle is one of the tougher dates in the series. It's mintage is about 4.6 million which is considerably less than most coins in the series. Most examples of this date carry a small premium as it's a little harder to find. In MS68 or lower it is fairly common. In spot free MS69 condition it is tougher to find but yet examples can be found if enough seaarching is done. In perfect MS70 condition this coin is very difficult to find and worth a large premium.

The 1913 Type 1 Buffalo nickel is by far the most common of the early (pre-1934) Buffalo nickels. Several thousand Gem MS65 and better examples survive. This issue is typically well struck. Luster is usually satiny and good. While this is not a particularly rare coin, it does have two things going for it. It is the first year of issue and it is a one-year-only type coin.

Over 19 years ago, on May 10th 1994, Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as South Africa’s first Black president at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, signifying the start of our new democracy. This momentous occasion was commemorated with the minting of the first known South African 5 Rand coin with the Union Buildings featured on the reverse, and the old coat of arms on the obverse of the coin.

These are beautiful gold coins that South Africa issued between 1961 and 1983. The front (obverse) shows the likeness of Jan van Riebeeck, the Dutch colonial administrator of Cape Town who many regard as the founder of South Africa, and the back (reverse) shows the famous South African springbok antelope.
