Set Description:

Synopsis: This is a set of 16 books, with a minimum grade of 9.2.

Background: This set is composed of 22 Annuals from the DC Silver Age ranging from 1960-1964 and covering six titles: Batman, Flash, Lois Lane, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Secret Origins, Sgt Rock, Superboy and Superman. Superman contributes eight books, Batman contributes seven books, and Lois Lane contributes two books, with the remaining titles contributing one each.

Our Collection: Most of our books came from Colmoreman’s award winning set, which was recently auctioned off on Heritage after the death of my friend, Mark Arrand. I really wanted to get them all to remember my friend, but I was never expecting the books to be so expensive-neither was his wife, Margaret-and had to let some of them go. At least she did well, so I am happy for her.

She told me that they played Stairway to Heaven coming in and Freebird going out at his funeral in England, hence the name of this set, which I initially called my Mark Arrand Tribute Set. Perhaps that was the better name since the books were by no means free LOL. At any rate, I will truly miss my friend, as even though we never met in person, we corresponded by e-mail and phone quite frequently over the years. Like I said in our bio, comic collecting has given me a number of life-long relationships that I treasure.

I am not sure we will ever finish this sett, as a few of the books we lost at auction were pretty much irreplaceable based on the current census. But I do hope to grab representative copies of the remaining Batmans and Supes that we lost. Rudolph? I don’t think so LOL.

Our 9.4 comes from the Savannah Collection and is tied with two other books for third highest graded trailing a single 9.8 and a single 9.6. We did try to buy Colmoreman’s Pacific Coast 9.8, which went for almost $20,000 at auction. So this book replaced it for about 5% of the cost of the 9.8. Still, it would have been nice to get that PC, but you can’t afford everything, at least we can’t.
