Owner's Description

Byzantine Empire Leo VI; AD 886-912 AE Follis Grade: VF: Strike 2/5: Surface 2/5 Obv.: Facing bust Rev.: Inscription This coin is double struck, but what makes this double strike somewhat unusual is that between strikes the coin was flipped over. I do disagree to some extent With NGC on their determination of the quality of the strike and possibly the grade. I can not explain the basis for NGC’s determination but let me explain my position. With many overstrikes the understrike is almost totally removed (& in some cases it is totally removed) leaving only a faint outline of the understrike. With this double strike The understrike is still quite bold still being raised above the flat surface of the planchet. In addition the overstrike is even built up on top of the understrike. Thus I claim both strikes were very bold. I believe the miss-mash of strikes has thrown off the grades and they are not looking at what still remains of the individual strikes. The very bold details of the second strike to me indicates very little circulation. For information on Leo VI please see the text provided for the previous coin. My cost was $65
