Owner's Description
Maryland's 63.5mm Silver Medal struck to commemorate the United States' Bicentennial Minted by the MEDALLIC ART CO. of New York Medal #452 This medal is 0.999 fine silver and has just over four troy ounces of silver. The obverse and reverse design comprize the Maryland coat of arms with the reverse being Lord Calvert’s coat of arms. In total five medals were struck all with the same design. The five medals were as follows: 63.5mm 0.999 fine silver (4+ troy ounces) 63.5mm Bronze 38mm 0.999 fine silver (1 troy ounce) with a gold wash 38mm 0.999 fine silver (1 troy ounce) 38mm Bronze Even though this set of five medals is worthy of inclusion in this collection simply because of its attractive design, this set is also here because at the time this set of five medals was issued I was living in Maryland. Census – NGC does not provide population info on items such as this. I have lost my documented cost of this five piece set, I purchased it in an estate sale and I know my total cost was than the silver content in the two one ounce silver medals.
