Owner's Description
Straits Settlements (As a British Crown Colony 1867-1942) Queen Victoria 1837 - 1901 Silver 5 Cents - 1877 MS-61 KM #10 Census - Seven coins graded by NGC - two with this grade - none higher Obv. – Crown head of Victoria facing left Rev. – Straits Settlements around top edge, five cents and date around bottom edge, numerical value inside circle A former British crown colony situated on the Malay peninsula of Asia, was formed in 1826 by combining the territories of Singapore, Penang and Malacca. The colony was administered by the East India Company until its abolition in 1858. The Straits Settlements was part of British India from 1858 to 1867 at which time it became a Crown Colony. I paid $800 AU plus a 16% fee. This was several years ago when the Australian Dollar was around 75C US.
