Owner's Description
Thailand Rama IX (Phra Maha Bhumifhol Adulyadej) 1946 – to date 5 Baht (Pattern) - 1972 MS-65 KM #PN56 – Small bust version of Y #98 Census - NGC does provide census data on this coin :>( Obv. – Head of Rama IX left Rev. – Mythical creature “Garuda” The Kingdom of Thailand (formally Siam) is the only country in south and Southeast Asia that was never colonized by a European power. Thailand dates from the 6th century AD when Thai people started to migrate into the area a process that was accelerated with the Mongol invasion of China in the 13th century. After 400 years of off & on warfare with neighboring Burma, King Taskin won the last battle in 1767. King Rama I in 1782 moved the capital to Bangkok were it has remained. Visited by several European powers Siam remained independent through accords and treaties and the occasional ceding of land. Thailand was occupied by Japan during WWII during which time Thailand declared war on the U.S. and Great Britain. A free Thai guerilla movement did resist Japanese occupation. The absolute monarchy was changed to a constitutional monarchy in 1932. My cost was $65.
