Owner's Description
Netherlands Queen Wilhelmina I 1890 - 1948 10 Gulden - 1933 MS-64 KM #162 Census - 111 graded by NGC - 45 with this grade - 49 higher Obv. - Queen Wilhelmina I facing right Rev. - Crowned arms divided value, date beow After being a part of Charlemagne’s empire in the 8th & 9th centuries, the Netherlands came under control of Burgundy and the Austrian Hapsburgs and finally was subject to Spanish dominion in the 16th century. Led by William of Orange, the Dutch revolted against Spain in 1568. The seven northern provinces formed the Union of Utrecht and declared their independence in 1581, becoming the Republic of the United Netherlands. This republic ended in 1795 when the French formed the Batavian Republic. Between 1795 and 1830 control of the areas of the Netherlands and Belgium changed a few times. In 1830 the basic form of the today’s Netherlands and Belgium occurred.
