Owner's Description
Germany – Alt-Oettingen Karl Wolfgang 1522 – 49 and Ludwig XV 1522 - 1557 Batzen - 1524 XF-45 Schulten-2600 Census - NGC does provide census data on German coins from this time period :>( The first mentioned count of Oettingen was Ludwig I (d. 933). His descendants slowly gathered strength in the area until at last, in the early 14th century, they obtained the right to mint coins. In 1557 the sons of Ludwig split Alt-Oettingen into Oettingen- Oettingen (Protestant) and Oettingen-Wallerstein (Catholic). Both of these lands were later divided up and incorporated into other lands. I really love this coin because of the dog in the coat of arms. My cost was $113.
