A very small hoard of these tokens surfaced in 2005; total number discovered is suspected to be ~30." REVERSE: Good for / 1 / Quart / of Milk HISTORICAL TOWN/CITY DESCRIPTION: (STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO) "Steamboat Springs was named for the chugging sounds that the hot springs in the area made when settlers first arrived in the valley. The sound was very reminiscent of the sounds of the Mississippi River made by the steamboats. Unfortunately, when the railroads moved in, the grating of the lines destroyed whatever feature caused the sounds and Steamboat Springs became silent." -- Stuart Pritchard
