This is one of two comics I owned in a CGC 9.8 grade that I willfully cracked out of its case in order to upgrade to a CGC Signature Series. The wait to turn these books around and see if they retain their 9.8 grade is simply agonizing. However, I am not one that is afraid to take a risk if the reward is great. In this case, the thought of getting my favorite character in a CGC SS 9.8, signed by the man himself Gerry Conway, was worth the risk of it potentially dropping a grade. I'd be more upset with myself for not trying than to have tried and failed. The risk paid off, and now I have the ultimate Firestorm holy grail. There are more valuable books in my collection, but this book easily is my most treasured and has the most personal sentimental value.

I already had a 9.4 copy of this book, but when this 9.8 came available, I had to jump on it. It cost me a bit more than I would have liked (about 10% above market). However, with the rising popularity of Killer Frost due the Flash TV show and her appearances in the current Justice League of America series, her books are going to come at a bit more of a premium. I'm hoping to complete this set by the end of 2017, but finding 9.8 copies of these for sale isn't the easiest!

Finally!
One of the biggest challenges to completing my Firestorm collection was finding issue #5 in 9.8 grade. It took over 6 years of searching high and low for existing 9.8 copies for sale and submitting raws with the chance at a 9.8 before I finally came across this book on an auction site. I clearly overpaid for this book (maybe 2x or 3x what FMV might be), but I have zero regrets. I now have all 5 books of the first volume in 9.8 grade! I couldn't be more excited!
Now I can focus more energy on rounding out the entire collection of Firestorm books. The dream of every Firestorm book ever made in 9.8 grade doesn't seem too far off now...
