Owner's Description
In Issue #275, Batman and Robin encounter the Zebra-Man, a high-tech scientist named Jake Baker, whose body is irradiated granting him "magnetic" powers to attract or repel metal, wood, stone, and human flesh. In the story, a charge from the machine which gave Zebra-Man his powers turns Batman into a "Zebra-Batman" who repels all solid matter, and without a belt like Zebra-Man's to neutralize the repelling force, he cannot regulate his powers. With Robin's help, Batman finds a way to use his unwanted magnetic force to capture the Zebra Man and after the criminal is captured, Batman uses the crook's magnetic belt in order to neutralize his magnetic force and return to his normal state.
I guess you could say this is a minor key issue, as the Zebra Batman has become a popular cult figure. The census for this one is rather strange, as there are two 9.6s topping the census, one of which is currently available on E-Bay for basically $30,000 plus sales tax. But after those two issues, the next two best books ever certified by CGC are 9.0s. So our book is top four in the census. It still was not cheap, but about 10% of the one on E-Bay, so it will have to do for now. We acquired the book from the 6/24/2024 Heritage Auction.
Still, 400 registry points for this book in 9.0 is pretty ridiculous. This issue is much more expensive than the surrounding issues, but is accorded the same or less registry points.
