Struck in copper with a reeded edge

Obverse: A bust of Liberty faces right and is surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. She wears a headband inscribed LIBERTY, and has a large star on her forehead. IN GOD WE TRUST is below with in a scroll.

Reverse:The denomination 50 Cents and the date 1870 is in the center of the wreath of Cotton and corn and inscription STANDARD is at the top.

Comment:
Gold and peach hues invigorate this highly attractive Premium Gem. A small spot east of the second T in TRUST is the only identifier. The centers have a hint of striking weakness, usual for this comparatively high relief design.
