Struck in silver with a reeded edge

Obverse: A bust of Liberty faces right and is surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. She wears a headband inscribed LIBERTY, and has a large star on her forehead. IN GOD WE TRUST is below with in a scroll.

Reverse: The denomination 50 Cents and the date 1870 is in the center of the wreath of Cotton and corn and inscription STANDARD is at the top.

Comment:
Mostly brilliant, but the borders exhibit sea-green and lavender tints. Minor inexactness of strike is noted near the B in LIBERTY and above the 1 in the date.
