Impressive 1794 V-2, LM-2 Half Dime, MS60
The Logan-McCloskey Plate Coin
1794 H10C MS60 NGC. V-2, LM-2, R.5. Ex: Price. The Logan-McCloskey plate coin. Last August, we were privileged to offer the remarkable early dime and quarter eagle collections assembled by Ed Price. Similarly remarkable was the Price Collection of half dimes, which was sold privately several years ago. This Mint State 1794 is just one of those coins with gorgeous original gold, russet, blue, and iridescent toning over reflective fields. Slight weakness is noted on the lower hair tips of the obverse and the eagle's breast on the reverse, but the impression is well centered with bold borders around the entire circumference on both sides. A strict Mint State coin; the grade is limited only by a few minor surface marks on each side. NGC has only certified 44 Mint State 1794 half dimes, including all four different varieties, and most of those are probably LM-4. We would be surprised if more than half a dozen Mint State examples of LM-2 survive.
