Owner Comments:
1794 S-31 R1. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Glossy light chocolate brown with splashes of reddish chocolate toning on the reverse and frosty lighter brown toning in protected areas. The obverse is choice and offers outstanding eye appeal consistent with a choice mint state example. The only mark on that side is a thin vertical nick near the hair left of the eye. The reverse is nice with some microscopic traces of extremely faint roughness accounting for the retention of color and visable copper purity fluctuation in the planchet, especially at UN to the fraction. No contact marks or other defects show on the reverse and traces of mint luster show in the protected areas. MDS, Breen state II. Any mint state coin from the Flowing Hair series of coins is an amazing rarity - think about that over 220 years old - the new erected US mint had just celebrated it's first birthday - and then produced this coin - which survived without being spent for us to enjoy today - current condition census has this coin around the 15th highest graded large cents of 1794 - pretty cool indeed!
