Most O-108a's are XXX edge.
Per DK: This coin very likely had a light cleaning – nothing abrasive – a few generations ago, but has since retoned very attractively in medium gray and bold, iridescent shades of gold with red and blue mixed in. The surfaces are smooth and pleasing, the strike is darn good for this notoriously poorly struck variety, and the eye appeal is outstanding. I think the proper grade is at least VF30, based on the reverse and the remaining luster. Maybe better. A great example of this tough variety.

From SD MB#43 catalog: "With but 2 mint state examples confirmed, an AU `09-110 is well established as a condition rarity. We old timers know how difficult it is to find this die pair in any condition, let alone high grade. The PCGS label correctly notes that the coin has been cleaned. The abundant luster was thereby softened. The pale grey/gold surfaces are virtually free of marks, attesting to the coin’s very brief entry into the stream of commerce. (The “incused segments” over the eagle are from a clashed die, also seen on the common 1809 O.102.) This piece surfaced at the March 2016 Baltimore show and now makes its inaugural appearance at auction. It deserves a warm welcome."

Stack's Bowers Catalog: "A warm amber glow radiates from the right obverse border before cooling to vibrant cobalt iridescence at left, complemented by a much more subtle incendiary glow at the reverse borders. The surfaces exhibit a uniform luster that is typically reserved for pieces of a loftier grade assignment, rendering this piece decidedly choice as it sits. Passionately rendered and attractive in all respects."
