Owner Comments:

In 1972 the first of the commemorative medals was issued. The bronze specimen featured George Washington on the obverse and the Sons of Liberty tree on the reverse. Washingtons portrait is based on sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon's famous bust, commonly seen on the present-day quarter. (The Sons of Liberty were an early group of patriots said to be responsible for the Boston Tea Party in 1773. The tree is symbolic as an early meeting place of the group, and as a site where local grievances were addressed.)

This bronze medal is undated, came in PNC packaging (Philatelic-Numismatic Combinations), achieved a Top Pop grade of MS 68, and is sealed in the original US Mint "soft pack" with a white plastic token.
