Struck between 1488 and 1494 at the Naples, Italy mint. Ferdinand I and his Queen Isabella famously joined the two kingdoms of Castille and Aragon, unifying Spain, and completed the reconquista driving out Muslim rule from the Iberian peninsula. They also financed Columbus on his voyage of exploration to what turned out to be North America.
