Per the certificate of authenticity, “This silver medal has been specially designed and produced by the United States Mint to commemorate Benjamin Franklin’s contributions to the American Fire Service and to recognize the achievements and needs of America’s fire services.” It is noteworthy that these National Commemorative Medals were sold directly by the U.S. Mint like commemorative coins and that they contain one ounce of silver. Medals are undated and issued in 1993 and 1994.
