Small gold, platinum, silver and bronze medals were struck to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Padre Junipero Serra. National Commemorative Medals were distributed by the Padre Junipero Serra 250th Anniversary Association. Legislation to strike the medals was signed into law by President Kennedy six days before his death.
