These were struck in great numbers but then melted down and held out of circulation. I read reports that only 100 survived, but, the current NGC and PCGS populations together total 170 - not even counting the details graded coins.
I got one of these first from a Heritage Europe (formerly MPO in Amsterdam). It was kind of dull and came back UNC cleaned. This coin I got a few months later from an HD Rauch auction, for about $50 less too, and it has come back MS-63. NGC says there are 8 in this grade including this coin, and 3 in higher grades. PCGS has 35 in MS63 and 11 in higher grades (all in MS64 except one in MS65).
