Owner Comments:

Silver Denarius, Lugdunum mint, AD 14-37. Roman Empire, Tiberius Caesar Augustus. OBV: TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS, laureate head of Tiberius right; REV: PONTIF MAXIM, Livia, as Pax, holding branch and sceptre, seated right on chair with plain legs. Known as the Biblical "tribute penny", Biblical reference: Matthew 22:19-22. Although this coin was minted during the time of Jesus, it seems only a small amount were circulated in Judaea. The most common denarii found in Israel, are those struck under Augustus (specifically the series with Gaius & Lucius).
