Owner Comments:

An interesting over date of a Large Cent produced by the Philadelphia Mint in 1820.Evidently,the last two digits of an 1819 obverse die’s date were repunched to read 1820 thereby allowing the Mint to utilize dies that would have been discarded.This practice of reutilization saved the early Mint from having to prepare new dies needed for next year’s production.This was a cost saving solution.
