The Liberty Head Half Eagle, the Half Eagle at the onset of the 20th Century had the same design as the Quarter Eagle but was produced in significantly larger quantities. Finding an example is not difficult even in uncirculated grades. I have chosen a Proof issue for my representation of this type. They were in fact produced in tiny quantities and are very scarce. The 1902 example here comes from a mintage of just 162, this coin has very nice eye appeal for the grade. Nice cameo contrast, great mirrors, and just enough hairlines to lower grade to 62 thus making it more affordable for me. It is my only Proof classic gold coin.
