Obverse: A view of a large Gothic building ST. BARTHOLOMEWS HOSPITAL. Ex: REBUILT 1789. in two lines
Reverse: The Arms of the Borough of Gloucester surmounted by a Cap of Maintenance with CITY TOKEN at the sides of the shield and P. KEMPSON FECIT alongside, the date 17 97 split beneath the shield, the legend THE ARMS OF GLOCESTER. around the edge

St. Bartholomew's Hospital or Almshouse stood on Westgate Street and was intended for about sixty poor people; with a chaplain, physician, and surgeon in attendance. The Hospital was rebuilt in 1787-90 by William Price and is now restored as a shopping and craft center.
