- Both French and Flemish are official languages of Belgium so in 1914 half the coins were minted with French legends and half with Flemish legends.
- Before becoming King of Belgium at an age of 16, Albert was Count of Flanders. He ascended the throne on the death of his Uncle, Leopold II, 1909, due to the death of the intended heirs, Leopold’s son and nephew.
- King Albert died in a mountain climbing accident.
